How to Reverse a Video on Snapchat?

What you need

  • Make a new video snap in the Snapchat app first. Ensure to limit it to 10 seconds or less.
  • Next, swipe left around eight times on the video snap preview until three reverse arrows (<<<) are displayed above it.
  • Only videos taken using the app can be filtered in reverse; videos uploaded from your device cannot be.

How to Reverse a Video on Snapchat

Reversing a video is as easy as applying a filter on Snapchat. You can use similar steps in the Snapchat app for iOS and Android.

  • Record a video snap by tapping and holding the record button on the app but keep in mind the reverse filter can only be used on videos that are under 10 seconds long.

Note: Only videos you’ve filmed on Snapchat can be given the reverse filter effect. You cannot Reverse video snaps from videos you’ve uploaded to Snapchat from your device.

  • Keep swiping right until you browse through the filters of your video snap review and find out the three reverse arrows (<<<) appear on the video. It will automatically apply the reverse effect on your video preview (Every audio track in the video will also play backwards).
  • When sliding to the right, the reverse video filter is roughly the ninth filter. Swiping left through filters will get you the same, but it will take more time. You can use some filters to either speed up (rabbit icon) or slow down (snail icon) your video.
  • You can improve your video snap with additional effects such as (text, stickers, drawings, etc.) and press ‘Send To‘ to send it to friends or post it to your stories.

When should I apply the reverse effect on the video snaps?

Using this filter to reverse a video on Snapchat is a fun approach to showing a series of events. This filter is often used to record many action-packed videos to show off your friends.

Putting your video footage backwards is a fun approach to showing a sequence of events. Videos with lots of action often benefit the most from this filter.

Take the basic scenario of dumping a rock onto a frozen river, which causes the ice to crack. Applying the reverse filter would allow you to see the broken ice coming back together as the video played backwards rather than watching it shatter at the end of the clip.
