How to Untag Yourself on Instagram Posts?
Now, let’s see how you can untag yourself on Instagram by following the steps below:
- Log into your Instagram account: If you haven’t yet, log into your Instagram account and find the post you’ve been tagged on. How?
2. Find the tagged post: After logging into your Instagram, select the heart button on the top right corner beside the Direct Messages (DMs) icon, and open the tagged notification you got.
3. Select the tag: After opening the post you’ve tagged in, select the tag where your username appears and the tag options will be opened.
4. Remove yourself from the post: As the tag options are revealed, you’ll find an action called Remove Me from the post. Selecting this option will remove your tag from the post.
If you want to keep the tag but don’t want to let your followers know about it, you can select Hide from my profile.
After removing yourself from the Instagram post, you may get an option to choose who should tag you on Instagram. This setting will be helpful for your future if you don’t want someone outside of your follower list to tag you or your specific friends or none at all.
This setting will ensure your peace of mind whenever someone wants to tag you on an Instagram post.
How to Untag Yourself on Instagram Comments?
Since Instagram doesn’t have an option to untag yourself if someone has tagged you in the comments, you can block them by using the report function if the person keeps tagging you.
When someone tags you on Instagram comments under posts or other reels, it mostly appears in your DMs. You can encourage them not to tag you again next time, or if they continue to do so, you can report and block them. Here’s how:
- Open Instagram DMs: After logging into your Instagram account, click on the Direct Messages (DMs) icon beside the heart icon of notifications.
2. Open the chat: Open the tagged notification chat from the user who has tagged you in the comments under a post or a reel.
3. Select the comment: Go through the comment section and find the comment under the post or a reel you’re tagged in. Long press the comment to reveal more options.
4. Block the account: After the options are revealed, you can hit the block account option to block the user entirely so they can’t tag you from their account anymore.
How to Untag Yourself on Instagram Story?
When someone mentions you on their Instagram story, you’ll get a notification in your direct messages. But, as per Instagram’s support policy, there is no option to untag yourself from their story once they publish it.
The quickest solution to untag yourself from Instagram stories is to ask them to remove you from their tags politely. If the account continuously keeps tagging you again, you can report the account and block it. Here’s how:
- Open the story: Find the Instagram story tagged in your Direct Messages (DMs) & open it.
2. Report the story: Hit the three dots on the right side above to reveal more options. Hit the Report button & follow the steps asked by Instagram.
3. Block the user: After successfully reporting the user, you’ll be asked to block the account. Hit Yes, and the account that has tagged you will be blocked, and you can no longer be tagged on their stories.
Approve Tags Manually!
You cannot keep asking every single account to untag you from their posts, stories, or comments. For that reason, you can turn on Instagram’s manual tag approval feature so that you’ll be asked every time someone tries to tag you.
Go to the Settings and Activity page > Tags and Mentions > Turn ON Manually Approve Tags, and you’re done!
